HOBOKEN, NJ, JULY 1,
2009 -- Peter J. Cammarano waves to the crowd after being
sworn in as Hoboken's
37th and youngest mayor at the Stevens Institute
of Technology. He was
joined by his wife, Marita and daughter, Abigail.
On July 23, 2009, just
twenty-three days after assuming the office of mayor,
Cammarano was arrested
by the FBI as part of a major corruption and
international money
laundering conspiracy probe known as Operation Bid Rig.
Cammarano was charged
by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey
with accepting $25,000
in cash bribes from an undercover cooperating witness.
